About Us

Some Fast Facts:

  • Founded in Sydney in 1880 as YWCA of Sydney. In 2004 we became YWCA NSW.
  • We operate in four main communities of NSW – South East Region out of Nowra, Sydney Metro, Northern Rivers out of Lismore and South West Region out of Campbelltown
  • Our CEO Kate Frost is a former VP of Citibank
  • Our patron is Rachel Ward AO
  • Our major fundraising event is the Mother of All Balls, held annually. Last year it raised nearly $300,000 profit for our mentoring programs
  • Last year we helped 25,000 people across NSW
  • We believe in supporting ourselves where we can, so we operate several social enterprises – businesses whose profits help fund our Programs and Community Services:
    • Y Hotels & Conference Centre (there are two in the Sydney CBD),
    • Our Employment & Training Services (we are also a Registered Training Operation),
    • Yummy Café and Catering in Campbelltown
    • Pulse Cafe in Lismore
    • The Green Trading Company in Bomaderry

 

In 2009-10:

Examples of some of our programs reach in the 12 months to June 2010 include:

  • 574 women supported through our Encore "after breast cancer" programs
  • 1921 Aboriginal people have participated in a range of YWCA NSW programs and services
  • 2702 people assisted through our Employment and Training Services
  • 373 primary school children have been provided with a nutritious breakfast to ensure they are ready for learning each day
  • 117 young women and their children have found safe accommodation in our refuges
  • 2937 high school students participated in workshops about safe relationships
  • 1021 people have participated in training courses, made possible through our Registered Training Organisation
  • 1619 parents participated in parenting programs and workshops
  • 2562 people referred to Homeless Brokerage for accommodation and/or support
  • 467 parents participated in Books for Bubs to support early literacy development of their young children
  • 905 women affected by domestic violence and family violence have been provided with support and advocacy when attending court
  • 407 high school students participated in one day financial literacy workshops
  • 999 women assisted through the Domestic Violence Intervention Service situated in Nowra Police Station
  • 1994 young people supported by mentors
  • 129,626 downloads of the curriculum materials from our mankingcents.com.au website
  • 154 "at risk" high school students developed the confidence to re-engage in school
