Team YWCA NSW takes on the City 2 Surf!
Thu, Jul 7, 2011
Hi, I’m Sharne, Coordinator of the Big Brothers Big Sisters & Breakfast Programs at YWCA NSW (that’s me on the left).
I wanted to share some stories from our City 2 Surf training, which is well and truly underway (for some of us) and it’s getting competitive!
Of course the main reason we’re taking part is to raise funds and awareness of the great work we do here at YWCA NSW, helping disadvantaged people across the state, but there’s no harm in a little healthy competition to spur us on!
In the mentoring team, we’ve set our own challenge and it’s a case of the “Easty Vs the Northy” for Michelle and myself!
One of our core values at the Y is ‘Boldness’ and I’m proud to say that I’m well and truly living up to this. I’m so bold in fact that I’m already planning the type of lunches Michelle will be preparing for me when I cross the finish line before her on August 14th!
That’s right, we have set a challenge to motivate ourselves to train. The person who crosses the line first will have lunch prepared for them for the week following the City 2 Surf by the “runner” up. Not just a can of tuna and a salad – it’s got to be thought through and planned.
It’s working for me, because every day I come into the office I ask Michelle if she went for a run the night before – and I’m either relieved (that she also missed a session) or really scared because she is way more motivated than me!
Stay tuned for more on our jog blog and progress (or lack of) soon.
Sharne
It comes as no surprise to me Tucker that you are heading up programs in the community. I love your motivation and never ending team spirit to bring awareness to others – whilst having fun in the process. I can’t wait to hear what lunches your co-worker has to make when you leave her for dust!
Sharne,
I like your shoes!
Yay – Go TEAM YWCA NSW.. you girls are awesome xx
