YWCA NSW Community services are designed to develop the life skills and connectedness of people experiencing critical times so that they can move forward with their lives and become confident, happy and contributing individuals.
We can all experience critical times in our lives whether it’s struggling as a new parent, dealing with a difficult teenager, going through a divorce, recovering from breast cancer or losing a job.
YWCA NSW is the friend and champion that is there to help you develop the life skills and connectedness needed to move on from these situations and to get back on track. Drawing on the research foundations of our Unique Service Delivery Model – Y It Takes a Village we know that the early developmental years are crucial to adult wellbeing and there are critical transition points that can be times of risk for all people but particularly for the disadvantaged and vulnerable. We have also found that a mix of interventions are required to successfully tackle situations of disadvantage and therefore the traditional silo approach to service provision is ineffective in achieving long-term improvement for clients and communities.
The YWCA It Takes A Village response involves the following:
- Breaking down barriers between service provision silos so that a mix of resources can be applied to address complex needs.
- Providing services that assist babies and young children to make the best start in life which includes enhancing the capacity and wellbeing of parents and vulnerable people as this will have positive and sustainable impacts upon children.
- A collaborative approach with our clients and the community that builds social capital.
- Consultation with and engagement of the community in program development is underpinned by guidance from an Advisory Committee representative of the community.
