Domestic Violence Support Service

Domestic Violence Intervention Service

YWCA’s Family Abuse Prevention Centre operates this service in conjunction with the Nowra Police Service, which is funded through the Community Solutions Grants Program, an initiative of the NSW Premiers Department.

The service operates out of Nowra Police station 9.00am - 5.00pm Monday to Friday with workers on-call on the weekend.

The role of the Domestic Violence Support Worker is to work in partnership with the Police at the Local Area Command in Nowra. The service provides crisis support and follow-up to victims in the Shoalhaven area who are affected by domestic violence.

To provide optimum outcomes victims are contacted within 48 hours of the domestic violence incident occurring. This is generated by the referral process with police obtaining consent from the victim. It is of high importance that the victim is contacted prior to their attendance in court in order to link the victim with the YWCA’s Women’s Domestic Violence Court Assistance Program.

YWCA’s Domestic Violence Support Worker can be contacted on 02 4421 9658.
