Parenting Toolkit - Mum Dad Baby Mum Dad Baby was written as a guide for young parents in the Shoalhaven community who frequently had no family members to support them. These families were often isolated both geographically and socially from the community and mainstream support services and resources. This book was developed as a true grass roots resource, in consultation with the community and students participating in a parenting course at YWCA.
Over 25 representatives from the health and community service sectors, presented workshops to the students on all aspects of parenting. The content of these workshops formed the basis for the information contained in the book.
The role of parent is a critical one and requires a multitude of skills including those of pre-natal carer, dietitian, cleaner, counselor and financial planner. These roles also change at critical touch points of a child’s life. Many of these parenting skills are learnt "on the job" or from your own parents and friends.
