The Goonellabah Transition Program (GTP) is an early learning support program for children and their families during the transition period from the home to school. Indigenous and non-Indigenous children aged from 3.5 to 5 years, identified as requiring intensive transition, are drawn from local preschools to participate in our program, which aims to provide fun, flexible and holistic activities.
How it Works
Building on the child's and their families strengths, we aim to identify the factors that impact on their ability to learn and interact socially. In partnerships with the community, Education and Early Intervention Health Services, we provide a family friendly, culturally sensitive learning environment that addresses the needs of each child and family.
Parents, carers and extended family members are involved in the program and work as partners in their child’s transition to Kindergarten, participating daily Stay and Play sessions, excursions and family afternoon teas.
The development of resources, books and games that reflect and support the program are available.
