At Risk Young People

More than Dreams

Funded by Family and Community Service and Indigenous Affairs, More than Dreams is a project to develop the skills and resilience of culturally and linguistically diverse people from a range of cultural backgrounds in Campbelltown area of Greater Sydney. Many of Campbelltown’s population were born overseas, giving the area a diverse cultural make-up including, communities of people from the Philippines, Fiji, India, South Africa, Lebanon, China, Germany and Poland. There is also a significant Indigenous population.

 

Project activities develop participants’ self-esteem, confidence and skills to help them reach their potential and take on community leadership roles. Training is offered over six week periods and covers:

 

  • Interpersonal relations
  • Public speaking
  • Group dynamics
  • Committee roles
  • Networking and negotiating
  • Financial literacy awareness
  • Vocational opportunities
  • Positive role modeling
