Liz Dibbs – lawyer, former partner in a major multinational firm, mum and volunteer – was unanimously elected as President of the YWCA NSW Board of Directors in October 2007 after being an active Board Member for seven years.
YWCA NSW’s Constitution dictates that Liz must step down from her duties as President, but we’re delighted she will remain a YWCA NSW representative on the YWCA Australia Board and a member of our Mother of All Balls (MOAB) Committee.
Liz has been a valued MOAB committee member for six years, co-chairing the Committee in 2006, as well as representing YWCA NSW on the YWCA Australia Board for the past two years.
Liz has been a phenomenal President, providing excellent advice and wise counsel to YWCA NSW on many important issues over the years as well as instilling rigour, discipline and strong governance into the organisation.
With Liz’s departure comes the announcement of the new YWCA NSW Presidency role.
At YWCA NSW’s Annual General Meeting (held 27th October), YWCA NSW’s members endorsed the Directors’ recommendation to adopt a Co Presidency model.
Stepping into the Co Presidency role are experienced Board Members Josephine Sukkar and Jill Davies who will remain in the role for four years.
Josephine has been on the YWCA NSW Board since 2007 and Vice President for two years, actively involved as a committee member and Chair of MOAB as well as the organisation’s Property Development Committee.
Outside of her significant YWCA NSW commitments, Josephine is a Principal of the Buildcorp Group with overall responsibility for executive business development and marketing, human resources and sustainability. She is also an independent, non-executive director of The Trust Company Limited, Opera Australia, The Centenary Institute and the Sydney University Football Club Foundation.
In addition, Josephine is on the National Selection Panel of the General Sir John Monash Foundation Scholarship awards, and the committee of the Bella Dinner for the Museum of Contemporary Art. She is married to Tony with a daughter Bella, and son Jordan both attending University.
Jill Davies is a Business consultant with strong background in strategic planning and chartered accounting. Jill manages large, complex projects working on a range of event and non-event related consulting assignments, including: National Rugby League (NRL), International Olympic Committee (IOC) London Organising Committee for the Olympic Games, (LOCOG) and was a Member of the Bid Team preparing the Rio de Janeiro bid to host the 2016 Olympic Games .
She has also worked with Events NSW and Football Federation Australia. Jill has been on the Board since 2009 and also actively involved as a committee member and Chair of the Mother of All Balls. She is married to David with three children, Anna, Jonny and Lucy.
Kate Frost, YWCA NSW CEO says: “Adopting a Co Presidency model will encourage and enable our Directors, who busy women are balancing work and family commitments, to step into leadership roles in a supportive environment.”
In addition, Cherrie Porter, who has been on the YWCA NSW Board since mid 2006 and Lina Tchung, who joined the Board in 2010 have been voted as Vice Presidents.
“We’d like to thank and welcome our new Office Bearers who we are looking forward to working with to support YWCA NSW’s mission of helping disadvantaged families at critical times,” concluded Kate.
