In accordance with the Privacy Act, YWCA will:
- Only collect personal information that is necessary for its legitimate function or activities.
- Collect personal information by lawful and fair means and not in an unreasonably intrusive way.
- When collecting information disclose our identity, how to contact us, and the fact that he/she can gain access to the information collected.
- Disclose the purpose for which the information is collected.
- Make aware to whom the information may be disclosed (be it individuals or organizations) as well as any law that requires the information to be collected.
- Take reasonable steps to ensure that when information is collected from a third party that the subject of the information has been made aware as per item 3.
- Where it is reasonable and practical collect personal information directly from the subject
- Give recipients the ability to opt out or be deleted from our list when sending information for the purposes of direct marketing.
- Will not use or disclose data for a secondary purpose without the Individuals consent or unless required by law.
- Will take reasonable steps to ensure information is, accurate, complete and Up-to-date.
- Will take reasonable steps to protect personal information from: misuse, loss, unauthorised access, modification or disclosure and destroy when no longer of use.
- Will provide individuals access to their records under all reasonable circumstances
- Will only use Commonwealth government identifiers to establish identity and not as YWCA identifiers and will not disclose an identifier unless required as per item 12.
- Not transfer personal information across borders to an unsecured location
- Will not collect sensitive information unless it relates to members, and then, only if the individual has consented or the collection is required by law.
- Any privacy complaint will be dealt with promptly by an appropriate supervisor/manager and all reasonable steps will be taken to ensure that any potential breach will not recur.
