Our supported playgroups are funded by Families NSW under the banner of “Kids 4 Life” and are a response to the needs of local families with young children aged 0-8 years in the Lismore and Goonellabah areas of Northern NSW. Support and education is provided for families through a range of programs including supported playgroups and parenting groups as follows:
A playgroup running out of an Aged Care Facility in Goonellabah. The residents become actively engaged through the activities that the children and parents are involved in. Examples of activities are songs, games and crafts.
A playgroup held YWCA NSW where mothers come to share stories, remedies and the highs and lows of parenthood as well as being able to access professionals. This is a holistic approach where we are not only addressing issues about children but also addressing issues around self care and revitalizing their own needs.
An Indigenous playgroup which meets every week at YWCA NSW. Beanies is similar to Polkadots but is aware of cultural differences and sensitivities. Social workers from different Indigenous community providers attend and help to build a stronger sense of community within the Goonellabah area. Beanies also addresses issues around revitalising parents own needs and self care.
