Wills & Bequests

Leave a lasting memory

Leaving a bequest to YWCA NSW will help leave a lasting memory to your kindness and generosity. It allows YWCA NSW to continue delivering programs to help disadvantaged people to help them led happier lives.

Over the years we’ve been very lucky to be included in the wills of YWCA NSW supporters, many of whom were unable to support us during their lifetime because of their own financial circumstances. These bequests enable us to continue our work.

Bequests are of great value because they are not usually tied to a particular program. That way we can decide how best to direct funds to the most urgent projects.

If you’d like to leave a bequest in your will to YWCA NSW, you may do so in the form of a gift of personal property. There are two basic types of bequests:

1. Specific Bequest

A gift of a specific amount of cash or particular piece of property such as a house, furniture or jewellery.

2. General or Residual Bequest

Once any specific or general gifts have been made from your estate, you may direct that anything still remaining, or a percentage of whatever remains, be left to a person or organisation.

Seeking the assistance of a solicitor, trustee company or the Public Trustee will ensure your will and bequest is valid, accurate and clearly states your wishes. Using a solicitor will ensure that not only is your will legal and valid, but it will be structured to cover all sorts of eventualities such as changes in the status of your beneficiaries.

If you would like to make a bequest to YWCA NSW, we suggest the following wording.

Specific Bequest

“I give to the YWCA NSW ACN 000 007 714, (insert specific item to be given) or the sum of $ (insert amount to be given) for its general purposes. I declare that the receipt of the executive director or proper officer is a complete discharge of this bequest and my Trustee is not bound to see to the application of this bequest.”

General or Residuary Bequest

"I give to the YWCA NSW ACN 000 007 714 the whole (or insert percentage) of my residuary estate for its general purposes. I declare that the receipt of the executive director or proper officer of the YWCA NSW is a complete discharge of this bequest and my Trustee is not bound to see to the application of this bequest."

If you like, we will include your name on our Legacy Plaque to be displayed for future generations to witness and be inspired. You will be remembered as a champion of your community.
