BLAST 4 Youth

BLAST 4 Youth targets young people that have disengaged from school providing them program them with the opportunity to improve their social skills and capacity in goal setting, and leadership with a focus on pathways to education and or employment. The program is offered two days per week for 16 weeks.

A recent program saw 11 young men ranged in age from 15 to 22 years old, completed a 16 week auto skills course. 75% of the students being indigenous. The guys worked on 2 repairing two vans and did a range of things from panel beating, painting and welding to finishing off with the mechanical side of the work. The outcomes from the course were excellent and included four students going onto further study in a pre apprenticeship Paint and Panel course, two going on to do Year 10 at TAFE and two going on to do a literacy and numeracy course. One student in particular who excelled; only missing one day of the course is looking at an apprenticeship in mechanics. This is a great outcome for this young man who has been unemployed for many years and now has a young family to support.
