"mYself mY world no limits" - a leadership program for young women

Y QuestThe YWCA NSW South Coast Register Y Quest 2010 is a very special fundraiser which develops the leadership, personal presentation, business and social skills of the young women aged between 15 and 24 in the Shoalhaven area.

As well as raising funds for YWCA NSW family programs, Y Quest also promotes the active involvement, generosity & commitment of local business to the region.

15 young women are selected to take part in the 14-week program which strives to develop the young women's  skills in the following areas:

  • Communication skills and public speaking
  • Team building and relationship development
  • Organisation and problem solving
  • Networking for the future
  • Personal grooming and presentation
  • Financial management
  • Citizenship and the community
  • Leadership skills
Prizes are awarded in recognition of special efforts in fundraising, community building skills or personal development. The Award Categories are as follows:
  • YWCA NSW Young Woman of the Year
  • YWCA NSW Community Builder
  • YWCA NSW Team Builder
Participants are required to raise $550 to cover the entrance fees, either through a sponsor or community fundraising. The program culminates with a special dinner for the participants, their families, friends, sponsors and other special guests.

In 2007, twelve young women participated in the first South Coast Register ‘Y Quest – myself mY world no Jennifer Jacket - Y Quest Winner 2007limits’ leadership program. These young women gained a once in a lifetime opportunity to develop a whole range of skills including citizenship, leadership, business and presentation skills whilst gaining the confidence necessary to succeed and achieve their life goals.

Becoming a Y Quest Participant

‘mYself mY world no limits’ - a leadership program for young women

YWCA NSW will deliver, in conjunction with a number of other local providers and businesses, a 14 week leadership development program focusing on:

  • Communication skills and public speaking
  • Team building and relationship development
  • Organisation and problem solving
  • Networking for the future
  • Personal grooming and presentation
  • Financial Management
  • Citizenship and the community
  • Leadership skills
Participants will be involved from time to time in media, community and promotional activities within the Shoalhaven, representing the YWCA NSW and their sponsors.

Prior to commencement of the course, the base sponsorship of $550 must be paid to YWCA NSW. Participants will be encouraged to raise funds in addition to the $550 entry fee during the 14 week period. YWCA NSW will provide training, support and information to assist Entrants with fundraising activities.

During the program participants will be required to:

  • Attend all sessions delivered during the 14 week program,
  • Participate in a YWCA NSW program or other community group of their choice for a minimum 6 hours over the 14 week period,
  • Conduct individual and group fundraising activities,
  • Assist with the preparations for the Graduation Dinner and Awards Evening, and
  • Follow the basic courtesy rules of the program.
On conclusion of ‘mY self mY world - no limits’, participants will be presented at a Graduation Dinner and Awards Evening where each of the entrants will give a presentation on their experiences during the program and hopes for the future. Participants will be presented with a graduation certificate and category winners will be announced.

Entry criteria

To qualify participants must:
  • be aged between 15 and 24,
  • submit a completed application form to YWCA NSW,
  • pay an entry fee of $550 to YWCA NSW prior to the launch date of 3rd March 2010,
  • commit to completing the ‘mY self mY world – no limits’ leadership curriculum;
  • commit, with their sponsor, to bring a table of 10 people to the Graduation Dinner & Awards Evening

Y Quest categories

YWCA NSW Young Woman of the Year
This title will go to the participant who raises the most funds for YWCA NSW, over and above $550 and, in addition, scores well in all aspects of the course and is assessed by the selection panel as the person demonstrating outstanding leadership abilities.

YWCA NSW Community Builder
This will go to the participant who raises over $550 , and demonstrates throughout the 14 weeks an understanding of the needs of the Shoalhaven community, supports fellow entrants, shows a willingness to be engaged in volunteer work within the community sector, and shows an interest in a career in community related work.

YWCA NSW Team Builder
This will go to the participant who raises over the minimum $550 and demonstrates a willingness to support fellow entrants, participates enthusiastically in all aspects of Y Quest and encourages other entrants to do the same.

Sponsorship Opportunities for Y Quest 2010

The South Coast Register is once again proudly sponsoring Y Quest in 2008. Manager Rachael Thornett said of last years experience that: "We were very happy to jump right in as sponsor of this event. At the South Coast Register, we pride ourselves on our connection and involvement with our community. To me, Y Quest is all about community and leadership."

Cash and in kind contributions will be accepted as sponsorship. In kind contributions could be used to enhance the program’s delivery, as prizes for entry winners or to raise additional funds through raffles. Businesses who sponsor the Y Quest program will receive the following benefits:

All sponsors benefit from:

  • Association with a long serving local charity organisation,
  • Strong support from the business & professional community of the Shoalhaven,
  • An event designed designed as an annual ‘Signature’ event for the YWCA,
  • A prestige social event for Nowra and the Shoalhaven involving the business and professional communities,
  • Promotion through the local media including individual editorial and interviews with the entrant you have sponsored, and
  • Promotion at the Graduation Dinner and Awards Evening.

Program Sponsor Benefits

Gold Sponsors
Sponsors who provide cash or in kind sponsorship of more than $5000 will receive:

  • Their sponsorship acknowledged on YWCA NSW’s website
  • An advertisement displayed on the YWCA NSW Y Quest promotional site from March 1 to May 31 2008,
  • Acknowledgement on all Y Quest promotional material including commercials, posters, invitations, flyers and newsletters,
  • A display advertisement and your banner shown at the Graduation Dinner and Awards Evening, which attracts over 200 local residents,
  • An opportunity to speak to the audience at the Dinner promoting your involvement with Y Quest,
  • Promotional material displayed at the Dinner and given out to all guests,
  • Four free tickets to the dinner, and
  • Acknowledgement in a South Coast Register advertisement in June 2010.

Silver Sponsors
Sponsors who provide cash or in kind sponsorship of more than $2000 and up to $5000 will have:

  • Their sponsorship acknowledged on YWCA NSW’s website
  • An advertisement displayed on the YWCA Y Quest promotional site from March 1 to May 31 2010,
  • Acknowledgement on Y Quest promotional material including posters, invitations, flyers and newsletters,
  • A display advertisement shown at the Graduation Dinner and Awards Evening, attracting over 200 local residents,
  • Three free tickets to the dinner, and
  • Acknowledgement in a South Coast Register advertisement in June 2010.

Bronze Sponsors
Sponsors who provide cash or in kind sponsorship of more than $500 and up to $2000 will have:

  • An advertisement displayed on the YWCA NSW Y Quest promotional site from March 1 to May 31 2010
  • Acknowledgement on Y Quest promotional material including posters, invitations, flyers and newsletters,
  • A display advertisement shown at the Graduation Dinner and Awards Evening, attracting over 200 local residents,
  • Promotional material given out to all Dinner guests,
  • Two free ticket to the dinner, and
  • Acknowledgement in a South Coast Register advertisement in June 2010.

Blue Ribbon Sponsors
Sponsors who provide cash or in kind sponsorship of more between $200 and $500 will have:

  • Acknowledgement on Y Quest promotional material including posters, invitations, flyers and newsletters,
  • A display advertisement shown at the Graduation Dinner and Awards Evening, attracting over 200 local residents,
  • Promotional material given out to all Dinner guests,
  • One free ticket to the dinner, and
  • Acknowledgement in a South Coast Register advertisement in June 2010.

Participant Sponsor Benefits

One of last years participant Sponsors, Winkler Optometrists said "It was great to see the young women develop and grow in confidence."

Participant sponsorship must be in cash and will be used to deliver the leadership program over the 14 week period. Businesses who sponsor Y Quest participants will receive the following benefits:

Full Sponsorship of $550
Sponsors who pay a full sponsorship will receive:

  • Acknowledgment in a South Coast Register advertisement and editorial
  • A display advertisement at the Graduation Dinner and Awards Evening
  • Your business name displayed on all promotional material, in which your sponsored entrant is mentioned
  • Opportunities to promote your business at fundraising events organised by your entrant,
  • Promotional material given out to all Dinner guests, and
  • Two free tickets to the Graduation Dinner and Awards Evening.

Partial Sponsorship of $275
Sponsors who pay a a partial sponsorship will receive:

  • Your business name displayed on all promotional material, in which your sponsored entrant is mentioned,
  • Opportunities to promote your business at fundraising events organised by your participant
  • Promotional material given out to all Dinner guests, and
  • One free ticket to the Graduation Dinner and Awards Evening.
