
Yise Up - A Safe Relationships Program
Yise Up Safe Relationships is about promoting healthy relationships plus providing high school students with effective communication strategies which assist them to achieve safe and positive life experiences.
Yise Up workshops specifically address the issues that young people face throughout their formative years and equips them with understanding that will enable them to make informed decisions about present and future relationships.
Workshops are presented by trained YWCA NSW facilitators. Flexibility has been built into each module of the program in order to ensure that contect is culturally relevant and age appropriate.
Descriptions of our modules include:
Yise Up About Relationships & Safe Dating, aimed at young people as they are beginning to form intimate relationships and assists in providing skills to deal with problems within those relationships. Covering content as:
- Cycle of violence
- What is sexual assault?
- "Date rape - what's that?"
- Myths around date rape and family violence
- Relationships - what I expect and what I will not accept
And;
Yise Up About Relationship Communication & Conflict, aimed to equip students with assertive communication and conflict resolution skills for healthy relationship. Covering issues as:
- Assertiveness in conflict resolution
- Communication - Active listening and assertive feedback
- Conflict resolution
- Unhealthy relationships and violent conflict
- AVO's - apprehended violence orders
According to student evaluations, working relationships with schools and relevant community groups, Yise Up is making a measurable difference in these young people’s lives, by changing attitudes and behaviour, not just for them, but in many cases, their families as well.
