Talking to Young People
YWCA NSW is focused on meeting the needs of young people by helping to provide them with the skills they need to be resilient and in control of their lives. We want young people to have rewarding and positive lives and work with them through a range of programs to help achieve this.
Though programs like Links to Learning we are working with young people to reengage them with education and training, while our Yise Up about Healthy Living workshops equips them with skills for dealing with bullying, conflict, safe dating and effective communications.
With our partners Citi we have identified that financial literacy education is really important in helping young people to navigate the complexities of managing money in today’s environment. Our Hip Pocket program involves a unique approach to teaching money management through educating and mentoring.
Other youth programs are focused on meeting the needs of young people experiencing vulnerable times by supporting and assisting them to find accommodation, employment and connecting them with relevant services.
Mentoring is a key component of many of these programs providing the positive role modelling and one and one support that can often be the key ingredient that young people need to become productive, happy adults, engaged in their community.
